How many mocks should I give for it to be effective for CAT preparation?

Body

Hey there, I am sitting for CAT 2025 and really wanted to know about mocks and how to go about them since I have no prior knowledge. Any and every help would be appreciated, please and thank you.

I used CATKing real mocks alternatively to get used to different difficulty levels. Every weekend, I did a full revision of tough DI-LR sets and RCs from past mocks. My scores went from 60 to 120+ in 3 months.Use mocks to develop a strategy, sectional order, question selection, and time split. Don’t change your strategy too often. By October, you should have a fixed mock-day routine and a fixed exam approach.

I gave 1 mock per week till August, then 2–3 per week till November. I used an Excel sheet to track accuracy, time spent per question, and my percentile trend. Also re-solved tough questions without a timer.Don't just analyze what you got wrong, also look at what you got right and why. Sometimes you get the right answer for the wrong reason, and that can be dangerous. Build a ‘mistake journal’ to track patterns.

You should give at least 30–35 mocks before CAT. But giving is not enough, spend 3–4 hours analyzing each mock. Identify silly mistakes, question types where you waste time, and note your strong/weak sections weekly.
