How should I prepare for the CAT exam if I am starting from scratch?

Body

Hey people, it's my first time appearing for CAT. I have an English honours and have no game plan so as to how I should proceed with my preparation. Fellow veteran aspirants, please help a novice out. Any and all suggestions would be appreciated.

I worked full-time while prepping. Focused on 2 hours on weekdays and 5–6 hours on weekends. Built a 4-month plan: 1 month for concept clarity, 2 months for intensive practice, 1 month for mocks and revision.

I began in July and got 98 percentile. My advice is: daily 3–4 hours of study, VARC + DILR every day, and QA alternate days. Mocks from August onwards helped identify weak areas and improved time management.

Start with topic-wise videos from YouTube or paid courses (like CATKing or Unacademy). In the first two months, build fundamentals and solve LOD 1–2 questions. After that, move to mocks and full-length sectionals.

Absolutely possible. Don’t try to master everything in the beginning. Focus on understanding your strengths and working on your weak areas via targeted practice. Join a Telegram group or study buddy circle, it helps!

4–5 months is sufficient if you're consistent. Start by building strong basics from Arun Sharma or CATKing materials. Focus on clearing concepts in QA and reading daily for VARC. Take 1 mock every two weeks initially and analyze it thoroughly.
