Mba after 4 years work experience?

Body

Hi all,

My academics: (7/8/7/8) Bsc from a tier one college and have also completed my masters. And I have four years of experience. Is it okay if I go for an MBA at the age of 29?

My field of work really does not have any opportunities, so I really want to switch my Domain of work. Please share your thoughts!!!

29 is a perfectly fine age to pursue an MBA, especially if you are doing it for the right reasons, domain shift and career growth. I was 30 when I got into ISB and honestly, it’s been the best decision of my life. Make sure you focus on your story, explain why your current domain doesn’t work for you anymore, and what you hope to achieve post-MBA. Schools love clarity and purpose, especially from experienced professionals. Don’t worry about age,it’s your clarity and motivation that count.

Go for it! I’m 28 and preparing for CAT 2024 for similar reasons. My career hit a plateau and I realized that without an MBA, I was boxed into a narrow role. The age thing is really a non-issue unless you’re targeting only the IIM A/B/C core programs, where fresher-heavy batches are common. Look at IIM Lucknow PGPWE, ISB, or even top international MBAs, they appreciate experienced professionals. Your 4 years of work ex + academic grounding can make you a solid candidate.

Absolutely yes! At 29, you bring valuable maturity and work experience to the MBA cohort. Your academic background is decent, and since you have a master's already, you're clearly academically inclined. I’ve seen people in my batch with 4-6 years of experience who switched careers entirely post-MBA. The only thing to keep in mind is to clearly articulate your domain shift during interviews, why you want to switch, how your past experience adds value, and where you want to go. If you can do that convincingly, you’re in a good spot.
